NATIAN Arrives in the Keystone State! Lots of May Events, Come By and Say ‘Hi’

Tuesday, April 30th, 2013

Spring has certainly arrived in a big way here in the Northwest!  With plenty of sunshine and temperatures comfortably into the 70’s, this past weeks’ weather has been remarkable.  There’s nothing Portlanders love more than sipping great beers in the great outdoors.  I hope you’ve been able to take advantage of the weather and enjoy some tasty Natian beers outside on your favorite patio or deck.

Alright, enough about the weather.  Now onto some brewery news and our May events.  May is shaping up to be a busy month for us.  There’s lots of opportunities coming up for you to come out and meet us, chill with your favorite beer and get yourself a free pint glass.  Or maybe even a growler!

The big news is that May will see the premier of Natian Brewery beers to the East Coast!  Earlier this year we signed on with Nevulis 20130413_123209Beverages of Pennsylvania for them to distribute Natian across the entire Keystone State.  After a few months of working out the details and waiting for the State of Pennsylvania to approve all the paperwork, everything was finalized a couple weeks ago.

The first shipment left Natian’s dock on April 24th and should be ready for retail outlets when the calendar flips over to May.  The full lineup of 16oz. cans- Undun Blonde, CuDA Cascadian Dark Ale and Old Grogham Imperial IPA- will be available, along with kegs of all varieties.  A nice addition is that variety cases, which includes all three cans, will also be on sale in Pennsylvania.  To find out where Natian beer is being sold in PA, contact Nevulis Beverages for the most current list.  You can also get in touch with them to request Natian Brewery beers for your favorite distributor, bar or restaurant.

Okay, now for a listing of our May events.  We’re starting off fast with a Meet the Brewer and Tasting on the 1st at Streetcar Bistro & Taproom.  With thirty rotating taps, the Streetcar Bistro offers an excellent selection of craft beers to complement their menu of fine food.  They also have a daily happy hour every day from 3-6pm.  We’ll be there from 5-7pm dishing out beer, along with pint glasses and growlers to a select few who show up early enough.  See our Facebook event page for details.

We’re also very excited for our next May event, the Feral Cat Coalition’s 15th Annual FURBALL, taking place Saturday, MayFURBALL 4th at 6pm in the Kridel Ballroom at the Portland Art Museum.  The FURBALL is the largest annual fundraiser for the Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon, which offers sapy and neutering services to help control the feral cat population.  Natian Brewery is proud to be the FURBALL’s beer of choice and to support such a great organization.  The event will have a silent auction with many great gift packages and a raffle with the top prize being a $500 VISA gift card!  Click on the FURBALL logo for complete details and tickets.

In order to save you some time, here’s a listing of our remaining May events so far.  Be sure to check back often with the Natian Facebook page as we’ll be adding more details and event pages as they approach.

May 9th- Tasting and Meet the Brewer at the Beer Bunker, 7918 SE Stark St., Portland, OR.  Tucked just on the west side of Mt. Tabor, come visit us at the Montavilla neighborhood’s best beer bar and bottle shop.  First 24 people to sample get a free Natian glass and first 12 people to fill a growler with Natian beer get a free Natian growler. So come early and bring your growler!

May 16th- Meet the Brewer at the Green Dragon.  We’re happy to be back at the Green Dragon for their weekly Thursday night Meet the Brewer sessions.  The last time we did one of these was more than three years ago, just after we started brewing.  We’ve grown up a lot since then, but not too much.  Come say hi!  First 24 people to sample get a free Natian glass and first 12 people to fill a growler with Natian beer get a free Natian growler. So come early and bring your growler!

May 17th- Meet the Brewer and Tasting at John’s Market in Multnomah Village.  John’s Market is a west side staple and we’re very happy to be doing our first event with them.  John’s is one of Portland’s best bottle shops and has a HUGE selection.  If you’ve never been, then it’s a great excuse to make your first visit.  They also have a large wine selection you can peruse as well.

Wow, that’s a lot to do for this month!  It’s gonna be hectic, but we’re up for the challenge.  We may be adding more events, so check back often for the latest news.  Thanks for following along, we look forward to seeing all of our great fans at one or more of these events.  Cheers!

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day- And Other Spring Events

Sunday, March 3rd, 2013

Can you believe it’s March already?!  Man, time really goes by faster the older you get.  Why is that?  If anybody can explain it to me, I’m all ears because I really don’t understand it.DSCN4506

Alright, onto the news and what’s happening at Natian.  Next week, I’ll be flying down to Dallas to meet with a can manufacturer to approve our new printed cans!  This may not be big news to you, but it is for me.  For the past year we’ve been using shrink wrap labels on our cans.  This process is very time consuming and labor intensive.  Really, it’s a big pain in the ass!  Having pre-printed cans will save us dozens of hours in the production process and allow us to get the beer out the door faster.  You’ll probably begin seeing them at retail outlets sometime in April.

Besides the new cans, we’ve just been keeping busy canning beer and working hard to get into new establishments so that more people are able to enjoy Natian.  If you don’t see our cans or we’re not on tap at your favorite bar or bottle shop, drop us a note, let us know where that is and we’ll contact them to change that for you.

We do have several events coming up that you should know about.  First of all, if you like your beer green on St. Patrick’s Day, then you will need to visit Hawthorne Hophouse or 15th Avenue Hophouse.  They will be serving up special green versions of the Undun Blonde for your enjoyment.  The Hawthorne location will also have Lumberjane Stout and the IRA on tap.  I’ll be there sometime in the afternoon pouring samples of the Undun Blonde, CuDA and Old Grogham.  We’ll post exact times in the near future, so come by, say “Hi” and get some free beer!  Both locations will also have Irish themed food menus so you can feel like you’re on the Emerald Isle and celebrate all things Irish.

Next up, will be the Third Annual Buckman-Kerns Brewfest held at East Burn on Saturday, April 6th.  We’re happy to be taking part in this festival celebrating the microbreweries of the neighborhood we call home.  Not sure exactly what we’ll be pouring yet, but there will be some BrewFest-Poster-13-copy-662x1024variety of IPA since they’ve added a Best IPA Contest this year!  Stay tuned for updates as the time approaches.  I encourage everyone to come out for this year’s Buckman-Kerns Brewfest.  It’s one of my favorite events and I always look forward to it because it’s so fun and the crew at the East Burn does an awesome job!  Make your plans today.

Our final announcement for now is the 15th Annual Furball being held on Saturday, May 4th at the Portland Art Museum.  This is an annual fundraiser benefiting the Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon and is their largest event of the year.  This year’s theme is Mew York, Mew York, featuring the look and feel of 1960’s New York City.  In addition to tasty Natian beer, there will be food from Elephant Delicatessen, silent and live auctions, a Wall of Wine and special entertainment.  Visit the event site today to secure your tickets in advance, I’m told it sells out every year.

That’s all for now folks.  Check back often for more news and updates on Natian Brewery happenings.  Don’t forget to like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter.  Cheers friends!

Beer For Everyone!

Wednesday, February 20th, 2013

First off, BIG THANKS to everybody who came to see us at Belmont Station Monday evening.  We enjoyed meeting new friends and talking beer with you!  Thanks also to Chris at eyeluvebeer for stopping by and posting a little write up on his blog.  You can read it here.

We are moving along nicely and settling into the new 10bbl system.  We’ve already brewed double batches of Old Grogham, CuDA, UnDun Blonde, Lumberjane Stout and our new Handful IRA.  This IRA is a slight revision on the Elephante’ Red Ale we brewed for last year’s Oregon Brewers Festival.  The feedback we got on the Elephante’ was positive, but we felt we could still give it a stronger floral aroma.  So we tweaked the malt bill some and upped the hops a bit too. Knowing how you Portlanders love your hops, we think you’ll be happy with the results.

I gotta say, it’s quite a difference brewing on a professionally built and designed 10bbl system compared to our original 1bbl setup.  It’s really nice being able to control pretty much everything with the touch of a few buttons.  It only takes the turn of a valve or two, turning on a pump, and the wort is headed from the mash into the brew kettle.  Same thing when the batch is done and ready to transfer into the fermenters.  This really saves us a lot of physical labor in the process.  There’s still tons of actual work we have to do by hand- canning and palletizing cases to name a few examples- but overall the work is much easier.

Well, now we have TONS of beer that needs to be sold, and drank!  After not brewing for nearly two months while getting the new system installed, it’s a great relief to finally be getting some beer out the door, and into the mouths of our thirsty patrons.  Look for our cans on the shelves of your nearby Fred Meyer, New Seasons or your favorite bottle shop in the Portland metro area.  We also have Old Grogham, Undun Blonde, along with the CuDA, IRA and Lumberjane Stout, available in kegs.  So be sure to put in a request for Natian at your favorite watering hole as well.

Besides brewing beer to keep up with our local demand, we’ve been busy working to fill our first orders for out of state distribution.  In case you missed the Facebook post a few weeks ago, we’ve signed on with Nevulis Beverage, from Schnecksville, PA, who will be supplying Natian beers to the wonderful people of Pennsylvania!  We’re very excited for this opportunity to share our beer with new people and to expose them to the great craft beers of Portland, and the Pacific Northwest.  If you’ve got friends back that way, be sure and tell them to be on the lookout for Natian coming soon, they should arrive by the end of March.   We’ll keep you posted on specific dates when they become clearer.

Okay, that it’s for now, gotta get back to work.  Afterall, this beer isn’t going to make itself.  Thanks for reading, and drinking our beer!
