4-Packs for Four Years!

Monday, September 2nd, 2013

Four years seems like forever ago.  Hard to believe that’s how long it’s been sincewe began brewing beer commercially.  Starting out on a 1 bbl brew system, we were just happy that people liked our beer enough to want to buy a keg or two.  In those days, the thought of having our own 10bbl system seemed like just a pipe dream.photo-1

Well, I’m happy to say that dreams can come true.  And Natian is living proof.  Of course, we couldn’t have done any of it without the support of you- our loyal fans, patrons and friends.  For this we at Natian Brewery are truly thankful!

So, in honor of your devotion and support- and our fourth anniversary- we decided to throw a little party to show our appreciation.  We hope you’ll join us at the brewery on Saturday, September 14th from 4-6 pm to celebrate 4-Packs for Four years!

Just show up at the brewery for the party with either a Natian coaster or an empty Natian can and you’ll be rewarded with a complimentary 4-pack.

In case you don’t know where we’re located, our address is 1321 NE Couch St. in Portland.  Basically, the corner of NE Sandy and Couch behind the circular wall of windows.  Entrance is on NE 14th Avenue.

We look forward to celebrating with you on September 14th from 4 to 6pm!  Don’t forget to bring your Natian coaster or empty Natian can in order to receive your FREE gift.  Only one gift per person and you will need to have a coaster or can to be eligible.  You can pick up a coaster or can wherever you find Natian Brewery beers.

NATIAN Arrives in the Keystone State! Lots of May Events, Come By and Say ‘Hi’

Tuesday, April 30th, 2013

Spring has certainly arrived in a big way here in the Northwest!  With plenty of sunshine and temperatures comfortably into the 70’s, this past weeks’ weather has been remarkable.  There’s nothing Portlanders love more than sipping great beers in the great outdoors.  I hope you’ve been able to take advantage of the weather and enjoy some tasty Natian beers outside on your favorite patio or deck.

Alright, enough about the weather.  Now onto some brewery news and our May events.  May is shaping up to be a busy month for us.  There’s lots of opportunities coming up for you to come out and meet us, chill with your favorite beer and get yourself a free pint glass.  Or maybe even a growler!

The big news is that May will see the premier of Natian Brewery beers to the East Coast!  Earlier this year we signed on with Nevulis 20130413_123209Beverages of Pennsylvania for them to distribute Natian across the entire Keystone State.  After a few months of working out the details and waiting for the State of Pennsylvania to approve all the paperwork, everything was finalized a couple weeks ago.

The first shipment left Natian’s dock on April 24th and should be ready for retail outlets when the calendar flips over to May.  The full lineup of 16oz. cans- Undun Blonde, CuDA Cascadian Dark Ale and Old Grogham Imperial IPA- will be available, along with kegs of all varieties.  A nice addition is that variety cases, which includes all three cans, will also be on sale in Pennsylvania.  To find out where Natian beer is being sold in PA, contact Nevulis Beverages for the most current list.  You can also get in touch with them to request Natian Brewery beers for your favorite distributor, bar or restaurant.

Okay, now for a listing of our May events.  We’re starting off fast with a Meet the Brewer and Tasting on the 1st at Streetcar Bistro & Taproom.  With thirty rotating taps, the Streetcar Bistro offers an excellent selection of craft beers to complement their menu of fine food.  They also have a daily happy hour every day from 3-6pm.  We’ll be there from 5-7pm dishing out beer, along with pint glasses and growlers to a select few who show up early enough.  See our Facebook event page for details.

We’re also very excited for our next May event, the Feral Cat Coalition’s 15th Annual FURBALL, taking place Saturday, MayFURBALL 4th at 6pm in the Kridel Ballroom at the Portland Art Museum.  The FURBALL is the largest annual fundraiser for the Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon, which offers sapy and neutering services to help control the feral cat population.  Natian Brewery is proud to be the FURBALL’s beer of choice and to support such a great organization.  The event will have a silent auction with many great gift packages and a raffle with the top prize being a $500 VISA gift card!  Click on the FURBALL logo for complete details and tickets.

In order to save you some time, here’s a listing of our remaining May events so far.  Be sure to check back often with the Natian Facebook page as we’ll be adding more details and event pages as they approach.

May 9th- Tasting and Meet the Brewer at the Beer Bunker, 7918 SE Stark St., Portland, OR.  Tucked just on the west side of Mt. Tabor, come visit us at the Montavilla neighborhood’s best beer bar and bottle shop.  First 24 people to sample get a free Natian glass and first 12 people to fill a growler with Natian beer get a free Natian growler. So come early and bring your growler!

May 16th- Meet the Brewer at the Green Dragon.  We’re happy to be back at the Green Dragon for their weekly Thursday night Meet the Brewer sessions.  The last time we did one of these was more than three years ago, just after we started brewing.  We’ve grown up a lot since then, but not too much.  Come say hi!  First 24 people to sample get a free Natian glass and first 12 people to fill a growler with Natian beer get a free Natian growler. So come early and bring your growler!

May 17th- Meet the Brewer and Tasting at John’s Market in Multnomah Village.  John’s Market is a west side staple and we’re very happy to be doing our first event with them.  John’s is one of Portland’s best bottle shops and has a HUGE selection.  If you’ve never been, then it’s a great excuse to make your first visit.  They also have a large wine selection you can peruse as well.

Wow, that’s a lot to do for this month!  It’s gonna be hectic, but we’re up for the challenge.  We may be adding more events, so check back often for the latest news.  Thanks for following along, we look forward to seeing all of our great fans at one or more of these events.  Cheers!

No Fooling Around Here

Monday, April 1st, 2013

Happy Spring everyone!!  We’ve made it through the dark, gray, dreary days of winter unscathed, and we hope you have too.  The clocks have sprung forward and it’s time for renewed optimism as the days grow longer and we welcome the sun’s rays with open arms.  Although, as we Portlanders all know, don’t expect the rains to stop until about July 4th.  Then we can all officially declare it summer!

Old Grogham cansOkay, first off, how was your St. Patty’s Day?  We trust you reveled in all things Irish for the day, including corned beef and cabbage, wearing lots of green and drinking some Irish beer!  I’m not talking that stout made in Dublin.  I’m talking about Lumberjane Stout, an American stout made by an Irishman right here in Portland!  It was flowing all St. Patty’s day at the Hawthorne Hophouse.  Word on the street is that Lumberjane makes for one delicious car bomb too!

Many thanks to Leah, Phil, the and entire Hophouse staff as they were gracious enough to host us for some free tastings, in addition to having the Undun Blonde, Lumberjane Stout and our new Handful IRA on tap.  Thank you also to all the great people who came out to celebrate with us!!  You all made it a very fun and memorable day.

The printed cans arrived last week.  YAY!  Here’s a picture in case you missed it on Facebook.

Now we have the enviable task of filling them all with delicious Natian beer for your thirsty mouths.  It’s hard work, yes.  But totally worth it when we see you enjoying a ‘Pint In A Can’ at your favorite bar or restaurant.  Canning for us a very time-consuming process, as we do it all by hand with a dual filler and single can seamer.  Here’s a picture to show you exactly what I’m talking about.

It’s not pretty and it’s not sexy, but we are definitely unique in this regards.  There are many “handcrafted” brews out there.  But I doubt any of them mean it as literally as we do here at Natian Brewery.  I’m not knocking any of the other guys who have canning lines to pump out dozens of cans per minute.  Shit, I’d LOVE to have that ability!  It would make our jobs a hell of a lot easier.  I’m just saying that we’re doing things a little differently at Natian, and we’re proud of that fact.

The big event coming up is the Buckman-Kerns Brewfest, hosted by the EastBurn.  It’s going down this coming Saturday, April 6th from noon to 8 pm.  Eight breweries located in the Buckman-Kerns neighborhood will be battling it out to see who our neighbors (you, the attendees) think makes the Best IPA!  We’re excited for the challenge and thank you in advance for your vote.  In our opinion, this is the best little beer festival in all of Portland so we hope you can make it and join the fun.  Click the image below for all the details.  We look forward to seeing everyone Saturday at the EastBurn, cheers!!
